Esteemed Yogis and Yoginis, Salutations!
In 1974, on a blind leap of faith, I opened The Yoga Institute and became a full-time yoga instructor. There was not a flicker of doubt it would not be successful.
Twenty years later after teaching and hosting countless classes, workshops, and retreats, I took a second leap of faith and segued into teaching, full-time, the Yoga Teacher Training and National Certification Corse, one of the first yoga teacher certification courses in the United States.
Now, after 32 years of certifying yoga teachers (and 52 years since opening the studio) I have gifted The Yoga Institute and all of its offerings to the Institute for Spirituality and Health at the Texas Medical Center to ensure its continuity into the future. Farida Meguid, my long-time assistant and yogini extraordinaire, will become the Director of The Yoga Institute at ISH and continue to offer both the 200 and 300 hour certification courses as well as other classes.
This transition has been a work in progress for several years and to have The Yoga Institute become part of the Texas Medical Center is a profound honor.
With this sea change I AM NOT RETIRING. I will continue to teach workshops and retreats (the hours can be applied to the 300 hour level of certification) for those who want to take a deep dive into their personal practice and experience the teachings in a classic retreat environment and format. The venue will continue to be at ISH, my spiritual home for the past 21 years.
Sharing the dharma is good and noble work and I look forward to continuing the journey with you.
Deep bow,
