Basic Techniques of Meditation

 

  

An ancient practice used in most cultures and religions, meditation allows practitioners to free themselves from the regimentation of daily life so that, with discipline, they can become mindful, relaxed, focused and creative. In this course, instructor Lex Gillan will explore a number of meditation techniques to help participants cultivate a calm demeanor and, in his words, an "unfurrowed brow." Each week, participants will experience a different meditation and relaxation practice, including sitting, walking and lying down meditations with dharma talks and instruction in mindful eating.


Meditation Practices will include the following:

  • Vipassana (insight)
  • Metta (Loving kindness)
  • Shavasana (relaxation)
  • Zen
  • Mantra
  • Comtemplative prayer
  • Walking and eating meditation
